Agreement to Terms

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern the relationship between The Journey ("we", "us", "our") and any individual ("Guest", "you") who inquires about, books, or participates in any journey or service provided by The Journey.

By submitting a consultation inquiry, confirming a booking, or making any payment to The Journey, you agree to be bound by these Terms in their entirety.

If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not proceed with any booking or service engagement.

Our Services

The Journey provides privately curated travel experiences across East Java, Indonesia. Our services include:

  • Private guided journeys to destinations including Mount Bromo, Kawah Ijen, Baluran National Park, Bangsring Underwater, Tabuhan Island, and Majapahit Heritage
  • Private ground transportation in clean, well-maintained vehicles
  • English-speaking Journey Host services throughout the experience
  • Journey planning, consultation, and itinerary design
  • Coordination with accommodation providers where applicable
  • Entry permit and national park fee arrangements where included in the agreed scope

Each journey is private — your group only. We do not combine guests from different bookings.

Booking Process

A journey with The Journey is confirmed through the following process:

  • Consultation: You submit your travel preferences via our consultation form or direct contact
  • Proposal: We design and share a tailored journey proposal within 24 hours
  • Confirmation: You confirm the itinerary and agree to these Terms
  • Deposit: A booking deposit is required to secure your date (see Payment section)
  • Journey confirmation: Final confirmation is sent upon receipt of deposit

Dates are not guaranteed until a deposit has been received. We reserve the right to offer the same date to other guests until a deposit is confirmed.

Payment

Journey pricing is quoted per group (not per person) and communicated in the proposal. All prices are in USD unless otherwise stated.

  • Deposit: 30% of the total journey price is required to confirm a booking
  • Balance: The remaining 70% is due 7 days before the journey departure date
  • Short bookings: For journeys booked within 7 days of departure, full payment is required at time of booking

Accepted payment methods will be communicated in your proposal. Payments are processed via bank transfer or other agreed methods. All payments are non-refundable except as specified in the Cancellation Policy below.

Prices quoted are exclusive of international flights, travel insurance, personal expenses, gratuities, and any items not explicitly included in the agreed proposal.

Cancellation Policy

We understand that plans can change. Our cancellation policy is as follows:

All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to hello@thejourney.id. Cancellation is effective from the date we receive your written notification.

We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that covers trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and unexpected disruptions before confirming any booking.

Changes to Journey

Changes by Guest: Requests to change journey dates, destinations, or scope must be made in writing. We will do our best to accommodate changes subject to availability. Changes made within 7 days of departure may incur additional charges.

Changes by The Journey: In rare circumstances, we may need to modify a journey due to safety, weather, permit restrictions, or other factors beyond our control. In such cases, we will:

  • Notify you as promptly as possible
  • Propose a comparable alternative itinerary where possible
  • Offer a partial or full refund if no suitable alternative can be arranged

We reserve the right to modify itineraries on the day of the journey for safety or operational reasons without prior notice or refund obligation, provided the core experience is delivered.

Guest Conduct & Responsibilities

Guests are expected to:

  • Disclose any medical conditions, physical limitations, or special requirements that may affect participation in the journey
  • Follow the guidance of your Journey Host at all times, particularly regarding safety at volcanic and natural sites
  • Respect local customs, communities, and natural environments
  • Carry valid personal identification and any required travel documents
  • Arrive on time at agreed departure points — we cannot be responsible for missed experiences due to late arrival
  • Take personal responsibility for their belongings throughout the journey

The Journey reserves the right to terminate a journey without refund if a guest's behaviour endangers themselves, others, or the natural environment, or if a guest fails to follow reasonable safety instructions from the Journey Host.

Liability

The Journey takes all reasonable steps to ensure the safety and quality of your experience. However:

  • Travel to natural environments including active volcanoes, national parks, and marine areas involves inherent risks. Guests participate at their own risk
  • The Journey is not liable for personal injury, illness, loss, or damage arising from participation in journey activities, except where caused by our proven negligence
  • We are not responsible for acts of third parties including accommodation providers, transport operators, or other services not directly provided by The Journey
  • Our maximum liability in any circumstances shall not exceed the total amount paid by the Guest for the specific journey in question

We strongly recommend guests obtain comprehensive travel insurance before departure to cover medical expenses, personal liability, and trip interruption.

Force Majeure

The Journey shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performance caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to:

  • Natural disasters, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, or extreme weather
  • Government restrictions, border closures, or travel advisories
  • Pandemics, epidemics, or public health emergencies
  • Civil unrest, strikes, or acts of terrorism
  • Closure of national parks or natural sites by relevant authorities

In force majeure situations, we will work transparently with you to reschedule, offer a credit, or arrange a fair resolution. Refunds in force majeure circumstances are at our discretion and subject to costs already incurred.

Intellectual Property

All content on thejourney.id — including text, photographs, graphics, design, and brand elements — is the property of The Journey and is protected by applicable copyright and intellectual property laws.

Guests are welcome to photograph and record their personal journey experiences for personal use. Commercial use of images or content featuring The Journey's branding, vehicles, or staff requires prior written consent.

If you share content from your journey on social media, we appreciate being tagged — but this is entirely voluntary.

Website Use

You agree to use thejourney.id for lawful purposes only. You must not:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the website or its systems
  • Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information through any form
  • Use the website in any manner that could damage, disable, or impair its functionality
  • Scrape, copy, or republish website content without written permission

We reserve the right to block access to the website for any user who violates these terms.

Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Indonesia.

In the event of any dispute, both parties agree to first attempt resolution through good-faith communication. If a resolution cannot be reached within 30 days, disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the appropriate courts in East Java, Indonesia.

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights under applicable consumer protection laws.
